HVL was inviting submissions for internal funding for excellent research environments, to the tune of 3 years with 2 mio. NOK per year, which basically comes out to a post-doc plus decent overhead.

Surprisingly (not saying that we weren’t excellent already, but you know that also a good amount of luck is always involved), our proposal themed “Towards an Excellent Research Environment in Trustworthy GenAI-assisted Software Engineering: Evidence, Methods, Educational and Industrial Impact (TERSE)” went through, and, maybe unsurprisingly, it’ll involve some ✨AI✨ within software engineering.

The objective of this proposal is to evolve HVL’s existing and already strong Software Engineering (SE) research group into an excellent and internationally visible research environment within trustworthy GenAI-assisted software engineering. The proposal exploits and builds upon our current strategic research strengths within empirical software engineering, model-based software engineering, and formal methods for software verification. The expected impact within software engineering is: (1) empirical evidence on the real-world effects and risks of GenAI; (2) actionable methods and guidelines for industry and public-sector; (3) up-to-date research and profession-oriented education at HVL; (4) a strong regional industry collaboration network; and (5) a step-change in the capacity of the research environment to win and be primary investigator in major externally funded projects (NFR/Horizon Europe/ERC).

Key-members are Lars Michael Kristensen (who also rode herd on the proposal process), Patrick Stünkel, Violet Ka I Pun, Rogardt Heldal and Volker Stolz as further WP-leads.

You can find the Norwegian announcement here: https://www.hvl.no/aktuelt/styrkar-forskinga-i-det-framtidige-universitetet/. Congratulations also to all other recipients, and especially to our group member Yngve Lamo who’ll be double-dipping since he’s also involved in one of the winning interdisciplinary projects on health!

Watch this space for our job-announcement in AI4SE – a Scandinavian candidate with experience in this area would be excellent, but we’ll be of course open truly internationally!

Meanwhile, we’ll be starting to writing those NFR/EU funding applications😅
